DISSEMINATED INTRAVASCULAR COAGULATION IN PREGNANCY

Course overview

Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a life-threatening thrombohemorrhagic disorder that arises secondary to diseases and conditions that cause hypercoagulation and hemorrhage. Normal pregnancy induces a hypercoagulable state, and DIC in pregnancy (DICP) is caused by endothelial cell damage, platelet injury, and is associated with a range of obstetric conditions. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of DICP, including its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
