Course overview

Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is a psychiatric disorder characterized by repression, denial, and “splitting off” aspects of personality and development of two or more identities. DID is thought to be a reaction to severe early childhood trauma, but some researchers believe DID is caused by iatrogenic effects of therapists using hypnosis to uncover childhood sexual abuse. This continuing education module is designed to give the healthcare provider an increased understanding of current knowledge about DID, including information on its causes, prevalence, and details on its treatment with psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
