Course overview
Transitioning the newborn from gavage feeding to oral feeding is a standard of care for infants who demonstrate physiological readiness to make the transition. It is a gradual process that involves determining the newborn’s physiological and developmental readiness for feeding orally, and slowly introducing oral feedings with a nipple or bottle designed to promote different flow rates. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of relevant research regarding transitioning a newborn from gavage feeding to oral feeding. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
