HYPERBILIRUBINEMIA: MONITORING IN THE NEWBORN

Course overview

Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia (NHB, i.e., increased concentration of unconjugated bilirubin in circulating blood of the newborn) occurs in almost two-thirds of infants, but severe NHB is toxic and can lead to complications ranging from mild to life-threatening (e.g., bilirubin encephalopathy). This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of TcB monitoring, steps of the procedure, facts/figures, and parent education concerning TcB monitoring. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
