Course overview
Crush injury (CI) results from direct injury to the extremities or other body parts from prolonged compression. CI may result in crush syndrome (CS), which refers to the systemic manifestations of CI caused by traumatic rhabdomyolysis (i.e., release of skeletal muscle cell contents) that occurs after the compressive pressure or force is released. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of CI and CS, including its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
