Course overview
Cyclothymic disorder (CD; often referred to as a mild form of bipolar disorder) is a chronic mood disorder characterized by a series of alternating cycles of dysthymic mood (i.e., depression that is mild compared to that in bipolar disorder) and excitement or euphoria (i.e., hypomania, which is less intense than the mania of bipolar disorder). The rapid cycling of mood also often undermines the individual’s sense of self, self-confidence, and ability to feel in control of his or her life. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of CD, its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for patients with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
