Vagal nerve stimulation (VNS) is a treatment that is used in combination with anticonvulsants to reduce the frequency and intensity of partial onset seizures. In 1997, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved VNS for treatment of partial onset seizures in adults and adolescents over age 12 years who have refractory epilepsy.This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of current knowledge about the treatment of epilepsy with VNS. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
