IMMUNOLOGIC DEFICIENCY SYNDROME: COMBINED DEFICIENCY SUBTYPE

Course overview

Immunologic deficiency syndrome (IDS) is characterized by a deficiency in cellular (e.g., involving T cell response) or humoral (e.g., involving B cell and antibody response) immunity, thereby making individuals with IDS more susceptible to potentially life-threatening infection. IDS subtypes are classified according to the immune system response factor that is disabled: The combined deficiency (CD) subtype is caused by genetic defects in both B and T lymphocytes that affect their development and function. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of relevant research on the CD subtype of IDS, including evidence-based information on risk, clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
