Course overview
Surgical site infections (SSIs) are the most common healthcare-associated infections in surgical patients in the U.S., totaling about 1 million per year. SSIs are associated with increased patient morbidity and mortality, and increased length of hospital stay, readmissions, and hospital costs. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of the prevention of SSI, including symptoms and risk factors of SSI, and to aid in caring for the surgical patient. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
