Course overview

Influenza (commonly known as the flu) is a contagious respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses of the family Orthomyxoviridae. Influenza is acquired by inhalation of large droplets expelled when an infected person coughs or sneezes or by direct contact of the eyes, nose, or mouth with articles recently contaminated with the virus. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of influenza infection and prevention, including etiological agents, mode of transmission, and specific preventive measures. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
