Course overview

Heart murmurs are abnormal blowing, whooshing, or rasping sounds produced by blood flow through the heart valves or in other circulatory structures within or proximal to the heart. Heart murmurs in children are usually innocent (i.e., benign) but may be a sign of a serious cardiac pathology. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of heart murmurs in children, including their clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
