Course overview

Diabetes mellitus, type 2 (DM2) is a chronic metabolic syndrome of gradual onset characterized by insulin resistance and impaired pancreatic production of insulin. Until recently, DM2 was almost exclusively an adult disease; however, because of its association with obesity, DM2 is becoming increasingly common in adolescents. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of DM2 in adolescents, including its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
