DIABETIC FOOT ULCER: SURGICAL/SHARP DEBRIDEMENT

Course overview

The principles of diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) management include prevention and treatment of infection, offloading of pressure, and debridement. Debridement is the removal of nonviable tissue with the goal of leaving a fresh, red wound bed and stimulating the release of growth factors to promote wound healing and decrease the risk of infection. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of DFU causes, its clinical presentation, and surgical/sharp debridement, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
