Course overview

Hemodialysis (HD) is an invasive procedure in which blood is drawn from the venous system through an HD machine for the purpose of removing metabolic waste products and excess fluid and electrolytes in patients with renal failure and in the treatment of drug overdose. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of performing HD site care, including how to examine the area, how to clean the site, how to change the dressing, and potential complications, and to aid in caring for the HD patient. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
