Course overview

Nitroglycerin (NTG) is an organic nitrate that is U.S. FDA-approved to treat acute angina pectoris (sublingual [S.L.] only); angina unresponsive to S.L. NTG or β-blockers, heart failure secondary to complicated myocardial infarction (MI), and perioperative hypertension (I.V. only); to induce and maintain intraoperative hypotension (I.V. only); to prevent angina (S.L., sustained release [SR], and topical only); and for moderate-to-severe pain associated with chronic anal fissures in adults (0.4% ointment only). This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of NTG. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
