Course overview
Morphine is U.S. FDA-approved for relief of moderate/severe pain (acute or chronic), acute myocardial infarction (AMI) pain, obstetric pain, postoperative pain, patient-controlled analgesia, preoperative sedation, and acute pulmonary edema. Common adverse reactions include peripheral edema, constipation, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, somnolence, urinary retention, and dyspnea; it can occasionally cause cardiac arrest, hypotension, orthostatic hypotension, palpitations, shock, biliary colic, anaphylaxis, ↑ intracranial pressure, seizures, and pulmonary edema. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of morphine. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
