HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS: NEONATAL INFECTION

Course overview

The herpes simplex virus (HSV) is a DNA virus of the Herpesviridae family and includes two types of viruses, herpes simplex virus, type 1 (HSV-1) and herpes simplex virus, type 2 (HSV-2), either of which can cause orolabial infection and genital herpes in pregnant and postpartum women, which subsequently can lead to the development of neonatal HSV infection. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of neonatal herpes simplex virus infection, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
