Course overview
Obesity in the United States has been described as a national epidemic. The unhealthy nature of the Western diet and decreasing physical activity have increased the prevalence of obesity, which has in turn increased the risk for the development of devastating comorbid diseases, including diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2), hypertension (HTN), and cardiovascular disease (CVD). This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of obesity in a culturally diverse population, including its many risk factors, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
