Course overview
Providing preoperative medication to adults refers to giving medication to an adult patient prior to a surgical procedure. Preoperative medications are administered by various routes, depending on the medication, the patient’s individualized health needs, and the treating clinician’s orders. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of preoperative medication administration in adults, including nursing responsibilities surrounding the procedure, and to aid in caring for the surgical patient who requires preoperative medication. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
