Course overview
Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) is an incurable inherited disease characterized by progressive weakening and wasting of the skeletal and voluntary muscles. BMD is inherited in an X-linked recessive pattern and may be suspected based on family history and physical examination and is confirmed with laboratory testing, genetic testing, and/or muscle biopsy. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of BMD, including its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
