Course overview

Oral hygiene, also known as dental hygiene, is an umbrella term used to refer to a range of activities involved in keeping the oral cavity clean and free of disease, and preventing the development of aspiration pneumonia and ventilator-associated pneumonia. Oral hygiene promotes oral and overall health and patient comfort. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of oral hygiene, including the benefits of maintaining oral health, potential complications of poor oral hygiene, and a process for promoting oral hygiene in patients. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
