Course overview
A request for organ donation is the process of seeking permission from an individual prior to death or from a deceased patient’s family members to procure one or more organs for transplantation. According to federal and state “required request” laws, healthcare facilities in the U.S. are legally required to request organ donation from the family members of potential donors, if the potential donor has not previously designated his or her wishes in a legal document. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of the request for organ donation in order to facilitate the organ procurement process. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
