Course overview

Hip osteoarthritis (OA) refers to the loss of cartilage that leads to degeneration of the hip joint, which may result in pain, deformity, immobility, deconditioning, and loss of independence. Conservative treatment of hip OA includes physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), weight loss, analgesic and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and corticosteroid injections. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of research on physical therapy for OA of the hip, including the use of therapeutic exercise, patient education, and manual therapy in the treatment of patients with hip osteoarthritis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
