OSTEOPOROSIS IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

Course overview

Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disorder characterized by reductions in bone mass and micro-architectural deterioration of bone tissue, leading to increased bone fragility and increased risk of fractures. Osteoporosis in childhood or adolescence is classified as primary osteoporosis if it is due to an intrinsic skeletal defect and secondary osteoporosis if it is due to a systemic disease or its treatment. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of the effect of osteoporosis in children and adolescents, including its etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
