MELANOMA: GENETIC RISK

Course overview

Melanoma is an aggressive form of cancer that can develop in various anatomic sites. The majority of cases are cutaneous (i.e., skin) melanoma (CM). Less than 15% of CM occurs in persons with one or more first-degree relatives with melanoma; these persons are also at increased risk of developing multiple primary melanoma sites. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of relevant research on genetic risk of melanoma, including evidence-based information on risk, clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
