Course overview

Bone marrow transplantation (BMT; also referred to as a stem cell transplant) is the process of using hematopoietic stem cells to treat malignant and nonmalignant disorders such as leukemia, lymphoma, solid tumors (e.g., neuroblastomas), aplastic anemia, thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, and immunodeficiency disorders. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of the procedure for providing parent/patient education about BMT, including a step-by-step process and the benefits of parent/patient education on this topic. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
