MELANOMA: LYMPH NODE INVOLVEMENT

Course overview

Thicker primary melanoma lesions are associated with increased risk of metastasis to lymph nodes and poor survival rates. Patients with melanoma lesions > 4 mm thick have a 5-year survival rate of ~ 57% regardless of lymph node involvement. Depending on the number of lymph nodes involved, the 5-year survival rate for patients with lymph node metastasis is 27–70%. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of current information on lymph node involvement in patients with melanoma, including evidence-based information on prognosis, melanoma lesion thickness, SLNB, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis.
