PARENT TEACHING: MANAGING CHRONIC OTITIS MEDIA (MIDDLE EAR INFECTION)

Course overview

Chronic otitis media (OM) is a persistent or recurrent middle ear infection that occurs frequently in children and can lead to permanent hearing loss. Parent teaching about the management of chronic OM refers to the process of providing educational information to parents to improve their knowledge about the condition and its treatment and to increase skills necessary for successful management of their child’s disease. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of parent teaching about the management of chronic OM in children, including steps involved in the parent education process and the benefits of parent education on this topic. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
