Course overview
Biofeedback utilizes specialized instrumentation to monitor biological processes (e.g., blood pressure, muscle activity) for which a patient may have no conscious awareness and to provide instantaneous auditory or visual information regarding those processes. The goal is for the patient to be able to learn to use exercise and/or relaxation techniques to control the involuntary process being monitored. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of biofeedback for pain management, including types of biofeedback, and the kinds of pain it can relieve, and to aid in caring for the patient with pain. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
