Course overview
Infant incubators must undergo routine safety testing of their mechanical and electrical components in order to keep the device in proper working condition. Although nurse clinicians may not participate in quality control testing, disinfecting, and repairing incubators, nurses play an important role in promoting incubator safety by performing safety checks on devices prior to their use, promptly identifying and reporting broken, malfunctioning, or contaminated components and maintaining device-specific documentation according to facility protocols. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of safety issues that arise with infant incubators. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
