Course overview
Milk-alkali syndrome (MAS) is an acquired condition in which a person develops hypercalcemia without increased calcium or phosphate in the urine and there is a shift in the body’s acid/base balance towards metabolic alkalosis. MAS is caused by excessive consumption of milk and/or calcium-containing antacids over long periods. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of MAS, its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for patients with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
