Teaching patients about oral anticoagulation therapy (OAT) is broadly defined as the process of providing information to patients and family members to improve their knowledge of OAT, its purpose, administration, laboratory testing, dietary management, safety precautions, and the need for strict adherence and close medical surveillance. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner information about teaching patients about oral anticoagulation therapy. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
