Course overview
Patient education about ostomy surgery and stoma care is the process of providing information to patients to improve their knowledge of what to expect before, during, and after ostomy surgery, and to enhance their ability to perform self-care skills and cope with the practical aspects of living with a stoma. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of patient teaching about ostomy surgery and stoma care, and to aid in teaching the patient and his/her family members before, during, and after ostomy surgery. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
