PEDICULOSIS (LICE INFESTATION)

Course overview

Pediculosis (commonly called lice infestation) is a communicable, ectoparasitic skin infection caused by the louse, which is a blood-sucking parasitic insect. Lice feed exclusively on human blood by injecting their digestive juices and excrement into the skin and then sucking up the blood, usually feeding about 5 times per day. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of lice infestation, including its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
