Course overview

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness for people aged 55 and older in the United States and causes a severely decreased quality of life (QOL) for those with intermediate stages of the disease because they become unable to adequately perform common ADLs, participate in leisure activities, and grasp nonverbal communication cues. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of relevant research on quality of life associated with AMD, including evidence-based information on risk, clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
