Course overview

Healthcare personnel wear masks, goggles, and face shields to protect themselves from sprays and splashes of a patient’s blood and other body fluids that can be generated during certain surgical (e.g., invasive vascular or cardiac surgery) and medical procedures (e.g., endotracheal suctioning, bronchoscopy). This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an opportunity to learn about the use of masks, goggles, and face shields. The reader/learner should understand the different types of masks, goggles, and face shields available to protect the healthcare worker from blood and bodily fluids that may be splashed or sprayed during surgical and medical procedures. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
