Course overview
Managing the nutritional needs of the mechanically-ventilated patient is a standard of practice that has evolved from being adjunctive therapy used to support the patient (i.e., maintain lean body mass, preserve immune function, avoid metabolic complications) to a more proactive therapy designed to favorably modulate the immune response, prevent oxidative cellular damage, and mitigate the metabolic response to stress. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of how to manage the nutritional needs of the mechanically-ventilated patient. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
