Course overview
LGBTQ+ children and youth are like other children and youth, but they face unique challenges and discrimination. Families, caregivers, providers, and educators can all play a role in fostering positive development, healthy coping skills, and resilience in LGBTQ+ children and youth. Families' culture, historical traditions, and belief systems can be assets in resilience building. In this course, you will receive basic information on gender and sexual identities in LGBTQ+ children and youth to inform your practice better. The course will also discuss the effects of discrimination on LGBTQ+ youth, as well as the impact of trauma. It will explore assessment practices, treatment models, and methods for building resilience in LGBTQ+ children and youth.
