Course overview

Persian Gulf syndrome (PGS) (also called Gulf War syndrome and Gulf War illness) refers to a constellation of nonspecific symptoms—including unexplained fatigue, memory and concentration problems, persistent headache, widespread pain, gastrointestinal distress, respiratory symptoms, and skin rashes—that affect veterans of the 1990–1991 Persian Gulf War at significantly higher rates compared with the general population. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of PGS, including its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
