RABIES: RISK IN ORGAN TRANSPLANTATION

Course overview

Rabies is an acute, progressive, and fatal encephalitis caused by an RNA rhabdovirus that spreads primarily by animal saliva from a bite. Rabies transmission from an infected donor is a rare but fatal consequence of organ transplantation. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of rabies risk in organ transplantation, including the signs, symptoms, and epidemiology of rabies, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
