Course overview

Maintaining radiation safety involves identifying radiation hazards in the healthcare environment and initiating strategies to prevent or minimize the effect of identified radiation hazards. In the United States, the currently allowed annual occupational radiation exposure is limited to 5,000 millirem (5 rem) per nonpregnant adult. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of maintaining radiation safety, safety interventions, and why it is important to maintain radiation safety, and to aid in caring for the patient requiring radiation emitting therapy. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
