Course overview
Adequate range of motion (ROM) is an important component to performance of ADLs (e.g., dressing, bathing) and ambulation, and is important for a patient to return to his/her prior level of function as soon as possible following injury or surgery. Passive range-of-motion (PROM) exercises are those that involve movement of a selected joint through its entire natural ROM, in order to promote flexibility, maintain circulation, and maintain or improve functional capacity. PROM exercises require no active participation on the part of the patient. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of how to perform PROM exercises. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
