Course overview

Chronic renal failure (CRF) is a progressive and irreversible deterioration of kidney function that renders the kidneys unable to excrete waste products and maintain normal fluid and electrolyte balance. CRF may progress to end-stage renal disease (ESRD), a condition in which patients require dialysis (e.g., chronic peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis) or kidney transplantation. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of CRF in children, including its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
