STROKE COMPLICATIONS: POSTSTROKE DEPRESSION

Course overview

Poststroke depression (PSD) is a mood disorder that can occur any time after a stroke but usually within the first few months. It is a common complication of stroke that manifests as one of three subtypes, depending on severity: major depression, minor (i.e., dysthymic) depression, and adjustment reaction with depressive features. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of the stroke complication of PSD, including its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
