Course overview
Hemodialysis is a treatment used to filter out accumulating waste products (e.g., urea, creatinine), eliminate excess fluid, and balance electrolytes in patients with advanced chronic renal failure (CRF) or end-stage renal disease (ESRD). When hemodialysis is performed, the patient’s blood is removed from the body, circulated through a purifying dialyzer, and then returned to the body. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner information about teaching patients about dietary and fluid compliance while on hemodialysis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
