Course overview

Shoulder dystocia (SD) during childbirth requires additional maneuvers following failure of gentle downward traction on the fetal head to deliver the shoulders. It is often an unpredictable and unpreventable obstetric emergency. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of current knowledge about staff education of SD, including evidence-based information on clinical presentation and maneuvers to release the impacted shoulder to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
