Course overview

Smith-Magenis syndrome (SMS) is a disorder consisting of abnormal physical, developmental, and behavioral abnormalities caused by a mutation of the RAI1 gene or by deletion of a small segment from chromosome 17 (17p11.2), including the RAI1 gene. SMS is characterized by multiple congenital anomalies, mild to moderate mental retardation, and behavioral problems.
