Course overview

Stroke results from an alteration in the brain’s supply of blood that leads to either deprivation of oxygen or flooding with blood. Stroke events involving oxygen deprivation are known as ischemic strokes, which occur when an artery leading to the brain is blocked by a clot or embolism. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of diagnosing stroke, including its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
