Course overview

Swyer syndrome (SS) (also called XY gonadal dysgenesis) is a disorder of sexual differentiation characterized by a male karyotype (46, XY) but a female phenotype. Persons born with SS typically have normal female external genitalia, fallopian tubes, and uterus, but have streak gonads (i.e., their ovaries are composed of functionless nongonadal tissue) and deficient secondary sexual development with primary amenorrhea. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of SS, its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment for patients with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
