Course overview

Tissue compatibility is critical when tissues (e.g., kidneys, bone marrow, blood cells) are transplanted from one person to another. If the tissue of the donor is incompatible with that of the recipient, the recipient’s immune system will reject the transplanted tissue. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of HLA typing of tissue/blood compatibility, including the potential consequences of transplantation of HLA-incompatible tissue/blood cells and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
